The following "Paradox of our Age" has been attributed to several people, but actually written by Bob Moorhead. Dated 1995, from the book, Words Aptly Spoken. The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, m ore conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. Last week I had the privilege and honor of seeing Alistair Begg in Chapel at the Southern Baptist Seminary ! This has been a long-awaited blessing, as I had meant to see him in person the last time he visited Louisville, KY in 2006. Back then, I told myself that nothing would stop me from going to hear him speak... that is, until I signed up for a mission trip during the same time he'd be in town. So I missed him then, but not this time! I mean, I do live next door to the Seminary and he happened to be speaking on a day I was free... in fact, I didn't know he was visiting our city until the morning of. Week 2 "Shackled By Your Past" (a study in Galatians) THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Have you wept over your past and been, in a sense, tormented in your thoughts because you didn’t come to know Jesus earlier? His promise is there to comfort and assure you that the Sovereign God—the God of all flesh—is able to cause all things, even your “before Christ” days, to work together for good.
